5,000 members suspended at dating site BeautifulPeople.com

January 5th, 2010

We are perfect people, fatties not welcome

Vanity dating site BeautifulPeople.com was reported to have axed 5,000 members because other members complaint that they had put on wight over the festive period. BeautifulPeople.com has and interesting membership model, you cannot just join the site because you have the membership fee,  other members have to approve you as “sufficiently beautiful” to be allowed into the site and if other members deem you as not beautiful any more,  you are axed. The 5,000 members recently kicked out where voted out after they posted pictures of themselves apparently fat due to over indulgence in the holiday merriment. The members expelled are mainly from US, UK and Canada.

The site owner Robert Hintze was quoted as saying: “As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld,” he added that “Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded.”

It is extraordinary that a dating and social networking site was based on this model and it attracts lots of members, you can draw your own conclusion about the kind of people the website is bound to attract.
